What is LiveTranscribe?

LiveTranscribe uses high-tech speech and sound recognition technology to turn the user’s phone into a transcription tool. The phone can pick up conversations and everyday noises, like a ringing doorbell or alarm, helping the user navigate the soundscape around them. The app itself is very simple to use, but its effect is enormous.

How can LiveTranscribe help?

The app itself has two major features. First, is the Real-time Transcription function. As the phone hears speech, it will transcribe it into words on the screen. This allows users to communicate with little to no lag time. The app supports over 80 languages, allowing users to communicate in whatever language they know best. The transcription can also remember certain words, such as the user’s name. This allows the user to get a phone vibration when their name comes up in conversation. You can also adjust the volume in the app to dampen or heighten a speaker’s voice. The second major feature is the Sound Notification function. The app can notify the users if it hears dangerous sounds, such as a fire alarm or even a crying baby, and the notifications can come in the form of vibrations and flashing lights. The app also can trace back up to 12 hours, allowing the user to see what sounds were around them over a period of time.

Where can I find LiveTranscribe?

LiveTranscribe can be downloaded for free on any Android 5.0 and up. The app is already on these Android devices, and can be accessed through these simple steps:

1. Open your device's Settings app.

2. Tap Accessibility, then tap Live Transcribe, or Sound Notifications, depending on which app you’d like to start.

3. Tap Use service, then accept the permissions.

4. Use the Accessibility button or gesture to start Live Transcribe or Sound Notifications.
