Dating and socializing go hand in hand as people tend to date those they are familiar with. This familiarization is often bred in social events and engagements. Consequently, as a person with a disability seeking to get into the dating scene, you must put yourself out there. It is tempting to remain indoors, but that will only ruin your chances of getting a date. Attend social events, network with people during such engagements, and embrace every opportunity to interact with others. That way, people easily notice you. In addition, you can also try online dating. There are various apps and sites dedicated to persons with disabilities.

    Be upfront about your disability

The modern-day dating scene can be very unforgiving about disabilities. This makes it hard for Persons with disabilities to date, as they are wary of the prejudices. Consequently, as a Person with disability, you may be very tempted to lie about your disability to a potential date. However, what happens when your potential date discovers that you lied? They will walk away. You cannot build a healthy relationship on a lie. The best thing to do is to be very upfront about your situation. Let a potential date know from early on that you have a disability. That way, only genuinely interested people will want to know you more, saving you time.

    Offer information about your disability

Potential dates may not be comfortable asking questions about your disability no matter how much they want to. This is because they do not want to be insensitive or judgmental. Yet, you would also want to know how a person ended up with a disability. Not having enough information about your disability may tilt the odds against you.

Remedy the situation by offering information about your disability. For instance, if you have a physical disability, you can let the potential partner know how you got there, how the journey has been, etc. Offering such information allows the other person to warm up to ask any questions they may have. It also communicates that you are self-confident and in control of your life.
