« She is bold and says it as is, you can see it in her eyes »
In October 2020 Wanja was listening to a song on repeat: Power by Muthoni drummer queen. ‘It inspired me to be an ARTivist, create art that is empowering, and that addresses something that is bigger than myself." Wanja said. The vision inspired by this song was so clear, she just needed to “download” it on canvas.
With acrylic on canvas, aerosol here and there and a marker to write some of the powerful statements on the piece, Wanja created this piece of art in 3 days. Art allows Wanja to find her voice and transfer her positive, powerful energy to the viewer.
The focus of this piece lays on the powerful phrases of self-love, worth, strength, empowerment and power of the woman. As a black female painter, Wanja wants to tell her story, she wants to represent her feelings and amplify the voice of people like her. The bold strokes of color are a symbol of confidence with the goal to pass this towards the viewer.
With this painting Wanja wants the viewer to “be transformed by the words, to affirm what the message means to them.” And by that “acknowledge that, the universe has got their back and that they are in control of their lives and narrative. Feel empowered, Feel seen and heard” Wanja tells.
